Why We Don't Call This a Bus Driver Job
Our scholars see you before they see a teacher. They see you again after the last bell. You are the first face of SR1 CPSA every morning and the last one every afternoon — which means you are not transporting children. You are opening and closing their school day. That is why we call this role a Transportation Educator. The tone you set at the first stop walks into a classroom an hour later. The way you close out the afternoon is what a family hears about at dinner. That is educational work, and we hire for it accordingly.
Four Seats. We Mean Four.
We are hiring four Transportation Educators — no more. A small team means every one of you is known, trusted, and held to the same standard as the adults in our classrooms. Our scholars are sharp, ambitious, college-bound children doing serious STEM work. They deserve professionals at the wheel.
And know what you are joining: SR1 CPSA is a startup school in Canton, Mississippi, now in its fourth year and still building toward our permanent campus. Routes are new, systems are being written, and your input will shape how transportation runs here. If you want a job where nothing ever changes, this is not it. If you want a hand in building something, it is.
What You'll Do
Run your route safely and on time. Our scholars come to us from the Canton, Jackson, and Yazoo areas. You will run assigned AM and PM routes across that footprint with pre-trip and post-trip inspections, full compliance with MDE pupil transportation and DOT regulations, and a safety record you are proud of.
Greet scholars by name. Open the day with encouragement, and close it the same way.
Hold the classroom bar on the bus. Calm, consistent expectations and a clean, orderly ride — every route, every day.
Represent SR1 CPSA at every stop. You are the school employee our families see most often. Carry that well.
Communicate fast and clearly with the Director of Operations about delays, incidents, or scholar concerns.
What You Must Have
Valid Mississippi CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements — and no air brake (L) restriction. You must be qualified and confident operating air brakes.
Mini bus capability is a strong plus. Some routes and STEM field study trips run on smaller buses. Tell us if you can and will drive both.
A clean driving record and the ability to pass all required background checks, drug screenings, and physical exams.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Punctuality that does not waver. The school day starts when you do.
The professionalism to be an example — in dress, language, and temperament, in front of children who are watching everything.
Why SR1 CPSA
We pay more than the school districts around us. Our hourly rate is higher than surrounding educational institutions in the area, commensurate with experience, plus school-sponsored health benefits.
Real standing — you are staff, not a subcontractor. Named, known, and part of the team.
A serious school — Mississippi’s first and only STEM-focused college preparatory charter school.
88% of our 3rd graders passed the state ELA assessment on their first attempt, more than ten points above the state average.
Only four seats — small, professional, and hand-picked. If you are hired, it is because we chose you.
