Canton, Miss. — SR1 College Preparatory and STEM Academy (CPSA) celebrated Halloween with a twist during its annual STEM or Treat event, blending spooky fun with hands-on learning. Students, families, and staff came together for a night filled with excitement, discovery, and creativity — all centered around the world of science, technology, engineering, and math.
Throughout the evening, students rotated through engaging, Halloween-themed STEM stations, including:
Fizzy Spider Web – a chemistry experiment where reactions came to life!
Pumpkin Catapult – testing engineering skills, hand-eye coordination, and problem-solving to see if their pumpkin was capable of landing in a cup.
Hydro Racers – racing water-powered creations using physics and problem-solving.
Monster Dance – a creative movement activity exploring sequence, loops, rhythm and coordination.

Adding to the night’s excitement was the Vanguard Creative Design Contest, recognizing students who went above and beyond in crafting their own imaginative costumes for the most mysterious and enchanted night of the year. This year’s winners were:
Wayne Stewart, 3rd Grade
Justice Diamond, 2nd Grade
Chase Robinson, 1st Grade
Am’Mariyah King, Kindergarten
Samara Aquino, Pre-K

SR1 CPSA extends a heartfelt thank-you to all the parents, students, teachers, and staff who helped make STEM or Treat a huge success. The school looks forward to continuing this tradition next year with even more spooky science and thrilling discoveries!
