SR1 CPSA Special Education Teacher Job Summary: Are you a dedicated and passionate educator who desires to see students grow and learn? Do you have the energy to serve as an innovative Special Education Teacher for elementary students? If so, SR1 CPSA is the environment for you.  The SR1 CPSA Special Education Teacher will use innovative educational and entertainment techniques with emphasis on hands-on learning to provide support to teachers and students to increase students’ deep learning of grade-level content.


SR1 CPSA Overview

SR1 CPSA is located in northern Madison County and is the first free College Preparatory and STEM public charter school located in the state of Mississippi. SR1 CPSA is located within Canton Municipal School District, but students who are in surrounding school districts that are rated a “C” or below are also able to attend. The mission of the SR1 College Preparatory and STEM Academy (SR1 CPSA) is to ensure all elementary students have access to a positive and robust learning environment that infuses Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) across content areas. SR1 CPSA students will demonstrate growth and proficiency as they graduate prepared to excel in middle school with a solid academic foundation and intrinsic drive to succeed in college. Long term, our students will apply their college degrees to developing solutions to local, global, and environmental challenges as they break generational gaps and diversify the professional workforce. SR1 CPSA will implement best practices and serve as a model school for globally competitive public education.


Qualifications

  • Possess proper certification and current licensure for position as required by the Mississippi Department of Education.

  • Hold at least a valid Class “A” License issued by the Mississippi State Department of Education and endorsed in the field of instruction to which he/she is assigned

  • Clear background check.

  • Have met other qualifications and requirements as established by SR1 CPSA.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and implement the students Individualized Education Program (IEP)

  • Assist in implementing and assuring the completion of any related services the student might receive as set forth in the student’s IEP

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes designated by the Principal

  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students

  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students

  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the Principal

  • Encourage students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior

  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students

  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved

  • Implement, by instruction and action, the school’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives

  • Implement school initiatives pertinent to student’s age, grade, and/or placement

  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports according to district policy, as well as, the policy that is set by the state for progress marking of an implemented IEP

  • Demonstrates Responsiveness in Supporting Teachers’ Instructional Needs, including; Supports instruction by being aware of teachers’ resource needs, searches out and provides, or makes teachers aware of, available and appropriate learning resources, Consults with teachers regarding appropriate use of resources.

  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulation

  • Assist administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and to maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner

  • Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms

  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants as needed

  • Lead and attend staff meetings/trainings as applicable; serve on staff committees

  • Assume responsibility for own professional growth and development, for keeping current with literature, new research findings, for attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences, and to maintain any credits and/or continued education for maintenance of licensure/qualifications required for the position

  • Maintain and accept responsibility for any school owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use

  • Undergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures

  • Maintain confidentiality

  • Regular, dependable, in person attendance is an essential function of this position

  • Perform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, administrator, director or established by district policy

  • Read, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy and other school, state and federal policies, and procedures and protocols as established by SR1 CPSA and the Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

About the Company

SR1 is an award-winning non-profit located in Ridgeland, MS with more than 10 years of experience in providing high-quality college preparatory services to K-12 students in Central Mississippi. SR1 has been authorized to open SR1 College Preparatory and STEM Academy (SR1 CPSA), the first public STEM
